itinerary

sometimes its the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination

The trip which leads you to the Kedarkantha Trek will start from Dehradun Railway Station with a morning pick up at 7.00 AM. We’ll travel to Sankri via Mussoorie, the Queen of Hills. Famous tourist destinations, ironically, don’t really deserve your attention when you’re on a longer trip like this.

The total distance between Dehradun and Sankri is approximately 200 kilometres, with a driving time of 9 to 10 hours. Mussoorie, on the other hand, isn’t just another hill station along the way; it has a long and illustrious history.

We will move the Mussoorie en-route to the Sankri, alongside the stunning Yamuna and Tons rivers. The drive also passes by means of beautiful pine forests.

On reaching Sankri, we will explore the scenic hamlet to prepare for the trek that lies ahead and overnight stay at Sankri. You can also spot the British architecture around the town.

Snow-capped mountains begin to appear up within the distance from Mussoorie onwards. We are going to have the magnificent scenario of “Kempty Falls” on the route to Sankri.

Sankri is the base camp of this elating endeavor and the passage point to the charismatic Kedarkantha and Har Ki Dun. The scenic village that is conveniently situated at 1950 meters on the pinnacle conveniently,

In the Valley with exhilarating views of the Himalayas. It is magically located 13 km inside the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sankri is an ideal base camp amidst the ridges because of the beautiful sun setting behind the Himalayas and the gleam of the Swargarohini peak.

When we arrive in Sankri, we will visit the picturesque hamlet in order to prepare for the upcoming Kedarkantha trek and an overnight stay in Sankri.

Dehradun to Sankri

We will begin our day with a hot, delectable breakfast before beginning our moderate hiking climb. The final destination would take approximately 4 to 5 hours to enter. We will pass through dense forests of Kedarkantha.

While mountaineering we will walk through Saur village, We will get transient glimpses of snow-covered mountains of the Himalayas but the pleasant view is yet to come on this Kedarkantha Trek. Juda-ka-Talab (which is frozen for the duration of winters) located at the top of 2800m.

An hour’s walk will lead us to the meadows where we will stay for the night. Overnight stay will be in tents.

Sankri to Juda Ka Talab (2)

KedarKantha Trek base becomes our destination for the day and we start for it post breakfast.

Today will be a busy day for the shutterbugs as the trek route is lovely with open views on all sides and good sized snowfields decorated with green patches. However, our destination is even more impressive. The route is around 4 to 5 hours long.

Imagine vast open, snowfields, the size of two football fields, a stream running by, and misty mountains forming the background – this is the KedarKantha Trek base where we will camp overnight in tents. We told you it was impressive!

If the Kedarkantha Trek base is this beautiful, imagine the beauty of the summit. Today will be a busy day for the shutterbugs as the trek route is beautiful with open views on all side and big snow fields embellished with green patches.

To the Kedarkantha top it would be a steep climb as well as it may be a little challenging too; depending on the snow. It would be a quick route and it will not take more than 2-3 hours.

As for the view from the top – you will be in a position to see all the mountains of the Yumnotri, Gangotri, and the KinnerKailash range, plus the valleys.

However, our destination is even extra impressive. Imagine a massive open, snowfields, the size of two soccer fields, a stream walking by, and misty mountains forming the background.

Then, depending on the route we take, we’ll descend the Kedarkantha Peak and trek all the way down to Juda-ka-Talab or an optional campsite. Tents would be used for the night.

KK Peak

We will return these days after an early breakfast. It is a quick trek and will only last a couple of hours. We will reach Sankri at around 12 o’clock and then we will board the vehicles and begin driving back to Dehradun. Arrive in Dehradun by the evening. The amazing journey to Kedarkantha comes to an end here.
